Memorial services for James Samuel (“Jimbo”) Thompson are scheduled for Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Chandler First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bryan Harkness officiating.

James Samuel (“Jimbo”) Thompson, beloved husband and father went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 28, 2018. He was born on December 24, 1931 in Marlin, Texas to Hillie Hart Johnson Thompson and John James Thompson. He was the younger of two children. His father preceded him in death when Jim was 17 years of age. Jim graduated from Marlin High School in 1949 and attended Tarleton State College for two years where he was awarded the Varsity “T” in fencing in addition to being a cadet in the ROTC program. Jim transferred to the Texas A&M College of Texas in 1951 and graduated in 1953 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Upon graduation, Jim began his banking career with Texas Bank and Trust in Dallas, Texas where he was trained in all aspects of banking operations. In 1955, Jim was drafted for service in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. Upon his return to civilian life, he joined Oak Cliff Bank and Trust Company and served in a variety of leadership roles for over twenty years. In 1958, Jim met Charlotte, and they were married in 1960 and began a 58-year journey together in marriage. In 1978, Jim joined First National Bank of Duncanville which he led until he retired in 1993. Two years later, Provident Bank lured him out of retirement to help prepare for a merger, and Jim worked hard to protect the jobs of the bank’s employees. Jim made the full-time commitment to retirement in 1997.
 
Jim’s top priorities were faith, family and farming, and he was actively engaged in each of these areas for his entire life. His faith was strong, and his humble yet direct approach allowed him to boldly share Christ with others. He served in church leadership roles at Faith Bible Church and First United Methodist Church of Chandler, and at the age of eighty-six, continued to lead a men’s Monday night Bible-study. Jim was a great role model to his children, grandchildren, and others for being a husband, father and friend. Farming was Jim’s passion, and he enjoyed the challenges of raising cattle, cultivating the pine plantations, and tending to “there’s always another project” on the family farm.
 
He is preceded in death by his brother John Hart Thompson, and survived by his devoted wife Charlotte, his sons and their spouses, James Hart Thompson and his wife Veronica, Collin Estes Thompson and his wife Jill, and four grandchildren, Tanner James Thompson, Lexie Hart Thompson, Tyler Reed Thompson, and Reese Reagan Thompson.

Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 2018 from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.
