Obituary for William "Bill" Bell

A celebration of the life of Bill Bell, 85, of Tyler, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2022, at West Lake Baptist Church with Bro. Lee Evans officiating. Mr. Bell will be laid to rest during a private ceremony at Neches Cemetery in Neches at a later date.

Mr. Bell passed away on June 4, 2022, in Tyler.

William Ray "Bill" Bell was born May 22, 1937, in Palestine, Texas, the son of Sallie Elizabeth (Carroll) Bell and James Allen Bell. He was a graduate of East Mountain High School in Upshur County, class of 1955, and a graduate of Tyler Junior College. Bill enlisted in the United States Army in 1961, serving in the 49th Armored Division, and was honorably discharged in 1963. He worked as an insurance agent for more than 30 years in Tyler and later worked for Mallory Propane. Bill was a huge fan of John Wayne, James Bond, Louis L’Amour, and Longmire and an avid collector of many things too numerous to list. He was an honest, loving, and faithful husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all those that knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and three sisters.

Survivors include wife of 64 years, Martha (Martin) Bell of Tyler; children, Scott Bell and wife Cheri of Troup, Marsha Holt and fiancé John Tuma of Centerville, Jon Bell of Irving; sister-in-law, Ray Jobe and husband Arthur (Bill's best friend) of Chandler; grandchildren, Jesse Bell and wife Kaylen, Shelby Bell, Conner Bell, Madison Holt, Makenzie Holt, Austin Bell and wife Lindsey, Allison Goolsby and husband Josh, Adam Bell; great-grandchildren, Hadilie Bell, Ruston Bell, Claira Bell, Emalyn Bell, Nathan Goolsby, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, a host of friends, and his beloved dog, Jackson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Becker & Macy, Hospice of East Texas, and everyone involved in his care for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home family.
