Obituary for Rodney M. Starnes

Services for Rodney Monroe Starnes, Sr. of Chandler will be held Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest at Harris Creek Cemetery in Winona, Tx. The family will receive friends Friday, May 10 from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Starnes passed away Sunday, May 5, 2019 at his home with family by his side.

Mr. Starnes served in the United States Army for 2 years where he was stationed at Ft. Hood with Company C of the 4th Armored Division. He then served in the Army Reserve for 8 years. He was a member of Chandler First United Methodist Church; of the Masonic Lodge No. 1233, Tyler and the Masonic Lodge No. 993, Chandler where he was a Master Mason, and of the Patriot Guard Riders of East Texas.

Mr. Starnes was retired from Alltel Supply, a telecommunications Company. He spent his retired years filled with a vast number of activities. Some of his favorites included touring on his motorcycle, golfing, fishing, working his land and cattle, hunting, camping with long-time friends at the Bottoms, all with his faithful canine companion, Piper. He was an excellent cook, loving nothing more than planning get-togethers to grill for large groups of family and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Monroe and Helyn Chloe Fielder Starnes; his son, Rodney Monroe Starnes, Jr., and the mother of his children, Margaret Ann Jarrett Starnes.

Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Lisa Starnes of Tyler, Kristie and Mark Frazier of Richardson, Gina Goff of Austin, daughter-in-law Robin Starnes; grandchildren, Jarrett Holland, Aubrey and Curtis Hope, Megan and Mae Morse, Kayla and Payton Prine, Sophie Frazier, Mallorie and Casey VanSchoubroek and McKenzie Starnes; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth and Ann Starnes; sister, Dollie Starnes Bell; and nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Heart-to-Heart Hospice nurse LaToya Smith and aide Terri. Our family also wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Stephanie Harmon, Lillie Harmon, Jean Harmon, Edwin Redic and Dee Looper for the many acts of kindness and love shown to Rod and his family.
