Obituary for Norma Jean Dewbre (Bass)

Service for Norma Dewbre, 94, of Chandler are scheduled for Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at West Lake Baptist Church in Chandler with Rev. Lee Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Chandler Memorial Cemetery. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2:00 P.M. at the church.

Norma Jean (Bass) Dewbre was born on July 6, 1924, in Athens, Texas, to Ridgel and Ruth Virginia Bass. She went to be with her Lord on May 16, 2019.

She was a graduate of Athens High School where she was also a member of the Hornet Drill Team.

Norma married the love of her life, Robert Darrell Dewbre, on December 23, 1942.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Oleta Boyd McKool; her sister, Sally Mae Buford Jeffries; and her brother, Paul Flynn Bass; and her loving husband of 73 years, Robert Darrell Dewbre.

Norma was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of West Lake Baptist Church in Chandler, Texas, for many years where she was a member of the Singin’ Saintz Choir, a visitor to those new and/or unchurched in the community and participated in the Women’s Ministry.

Norma loved to cook and everyone loved her cooking! She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, gardening and specially being with family.

She is survived by her son, Robert David Dewbre of Baton Rouge, LA; her daughter, Peggy Jean Chaney and husband James Chaney of Carrollton, TX; grandsons Dwayne Dewbre and wife Heike; Loren Watson; Brandon Chaney and wife Stephanie; and Michael Chaney; granddaughters Lori Kinney and April Harrison; and great- grandchildren, Ashley McCalvin, Sabrina Dewbre, Clayton Chaney, Hannah Chaney, Nathaniel Chaney, Sean Chaney and zmarilla Chaney.

Services have been entrusted to the Chandler Memorial Funeral Home family.
