Funeral services for Marie Splawn, 81, of Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Scott Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Red Hill Cemetery in Murchison under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Splawn passed away June 7, 2021 in Athens.
Marie (Walker) Splawn was born January 5, 1940 in Opelika, Texas, the daughter of Joel Travis Walker, Sr. and Modell (Robinson) Walker. She enjoyed canning tomatoes, baking Christmas cookies, tending her flowers, watching birds and listening to Christian music. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family and enjoyed being with them every chance she could get. She was a kind, gentle and loving woman who will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bobby Gerald Walker, Joel Travis Walker, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Teressa Lynn Splawn and brother-in-law, Norvell Alvey.
Survivors include husband of 64 years, Bobby Gene Splawn of Athens; children, Donna Wortham and husband Mickey of Palestine, Stevie Splawn and wife Terri of LaRue, Gary Splawn of Athens, Glen Splawn and wife Brandi of LaRue; sisters, Vaudean Alvey of Tyler, Brenda Tullos and husband Ronnie of Brownsboro; grandchildren, Cody Wortham and wife Jessica, Jamie Phillips and husband Daniel, Brad Splawn and wife Emily, Joseph Splawn and wife Ashley, Paden Splawn; great grandchildren, Scarlet Wortham, Colby Splawn, Blake Phillips and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Wortham, Joseph Splawn, Brad Splawn, Paden Splawn, Blake Phillips and Daniel Phillips.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 10-11:00 a.m. at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home prior to the service.
