Obituary for Jerry Dee Allen

Funeral services for Jerry Allen, 88, of Chandler, are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 20, 2021 at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home with Bro. Rick Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery under the direction of Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

Mr. Allen passed away August 15, 2021 in Tyler.

Jerry Dee Allen was born October 15, 1932 in Brownfield, Texas, the son of Alvie Lee Allen and Georgia Mae (Luker) Allen. He retired from the United States Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant after serving from July 1951 to February 1974 where he worked as an aircraft and jet mechanic overseeing jet engine facilities. During his time in the military, he was honored with a bronze star and three USAF commendations. After his retirement, he continued working in aircraft maintenance with Cooper Airmotive in Dallas and Tyler Jet in Tyler. During his time in the military, he volunteered as an outdoor counselor with the Boy Scouts of America in Utah. Jerry also coached Little League Baseball in both Nebraska and Chandler. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Chandler where he served in many areas of the church, and he also volunteered with the Midway Volunteer Fire Department. During his free time, he enjoyed guns, camping and the outdoors. He loved his family dearly and would participate in any extracurricular activities his children and grandchildren were involved in. Jerry will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma (Jones) Allen; sister, Voneva Allen and grandson, Garritt Perdue.

Survivors include children, Randy L. Allen and wife Lisa of Arlington, Ricky D. Allen of Chandler; sister, Barbara K. Sullenbarger of Chandler; grandchildren, Stacy Perdue and husband Philip, Travis L. Allen, Christian H. Allen; great grandchildren, Gavin Perdue, Cody Allen, Carter Allen and Kennedy Allen.

A visitation will be held Thursday, August 19, 2021 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Chandler Memorial Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, Texas 75701.
