Obituary for James Edward Ramsey

James Edward Ramsey, 87, of Tyler, TX passed into the loving arms of our Savior on January 22, 2022. He was born February 15, 1934 in Wylie, TX and grew up in Dallas, TX.

After graduating from N.R. Crozier Technical High School, he worked for T & P Railroad, which later became Union Pacific, for 27 years. He was married to the love of his life, Jane Holton Ramsey for nearly 69 years, and together they had three children.

He loved the Lord and spending time with his family. Fishing and pickin’ and grinnin’ at The Shed were some of his favorite things to do. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Tyler, TX and enjoyed listening to Southern Gospel music, especially The Cathedrals and Signature Sound. He also loved watching and feeding the birds in his backyard. He always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Opal Swaner Ramsey, sister Betty Fincher, and brother W.A. Ramsey.

He is survived by his wife Jane Ramsey; daughters Darlene Loving and husband Joe, Sandra Vogt and husband Mickey; son Jim Ramsey and wife Keri; brothers Buddy Ramsey and wife Janet, Robert Ramsey and wife Alice, and Glenn Ramsey; grandchildren Rachele Loving, Amy Jackson and husband Brad, Jerry Blaylock, Jr., Sarah Jenkins and husband Ben, Steven Blaylock and wife Dr. Stacy, Trey Ramsey, Gage Ramsey and wife Adriana, Morgan Patterson and husband Elisha, Eric Ramsey and wife Evelyn, Kirstie Earl and husband Ken, Casey Ramsey, Janelle Horelka and husband Shane, Tonja Vogt, and Michele Stevens and husband Justin; 14 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, friends, and others who adopted him as their father or grandfather.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jerry Blaylock, Jr. and Steven Blaylock, as well as Brad Jackson, Zachary Horelka, Shane Horelka, and Justin Stevens. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Trey Ramsey, Gage Ramsey, Eric Ramsey, Casey Ramsey, as well as Elisha Patterson and Ken Earl.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2022 at New Harmony Baptist Church in Tyler with Dr. Chris Webb officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of East Texas, New Harmony Baptist Church, or the National Kidney Foundation.
